Conservation & The Environment
Conservation and environmental issues is something that we don’t seem to take all that seriously as a society as a whole. Governments are very short sighted, as there term is limited and they want re-election, we as individuals don’t seem to see our contribution making a difference on own, so don’t bother. What we need to remember is that unless we take some action, there will be no home for our children, personally I think that alone is enough to make each and every one of us start acting.
Conservation and the Environment
The protection, preservation and management of natural environments and the ecological communities that inhabit them is something that is very important, we need to ensure that endangered species survive for future generations and that natural resources are not depleted, alternates are found, this will benefit us all and ensure the long term survival of our planetHaving spent some time in Costa Rica, volunteering to help protect Turtle nesting beaches and carrying out bird surveys, I understand it’s not just a case of protecting the particular animal. There are a number of issues that need to be addressed if conservation is to be successful and sustainable, for example:-
- How do you provide an alternate source of food and income for the poacher’s family?
- How do you distribute the wealth generated by eco tourism to include the local families that are struggling to survive?
What can I do?
Each and every one of us can do a whole host of simple things to help, what’s more these will also help us to save money too. What ever goals you decide to set, they should be something that you are happy to do, they should be realistic but challenging, and remember to be flexible.Use less water
- Fix those leaky taps.
- Take a shower not a bath.
- Turn the tap off when you brush your teeth.
- Reduce the amount of water used in flushing the toilet, (by using a HIPPO or similar device.)
Use less energy
- Replace light bulbs with energy efficient bulbs.
- If your not using it, turn it off, don’t put it on standby.
- Turn the thermometer down a notch and put on a jumper.
